| It is very difficult to accept the loss of George Javori, who died December 10, 2005. Although George wasn't with us for the Fall 2005 round of acoustic shows, memories come flooding back from other tours where George served as drummer, musical director, and friend. We all lovingly referred to him as Joan's tour "pet," a title we used with respect and pride, and as well-deserved recognition for his important musical contributions to the tours. George was always the impish gypsy of the touring family. He liked to tell his favorite jokes over and over again, laughing himself into near hysteria every time he reached the same old punchline, while the rest of us rolled our eyes in mock exasperation. Having mastered the art of the digital camera, George incessantly took photographs of everyone, everywhere. No one was immune. George was so alive and beaming when he was onstage - drumming was his joy, his passion and his life! We were all very moved when George's grandfather came from the "old country" to catch one of the European shows and to see the family's third generation drummer in action. We all shared George's joy and pride during those special moments. Somehow I am managing to reserve my personal grief until I hike to a favorite place in Tucson's Catalina Mountains, where I know I will feel George's presence as he assures me all is well. Bless George's heart. We wish him much love and safe passage, and we will all dearly miss him. |
